UTAH SYMPHONY Sat Feb 21, 2009

Saturday was a nice day, weather wise, we worked in the yard all day, raking leaves and cleaning up after the dogs. We real got things done, we worked till we were so stiff and sore, that we hardly could move. I fixed the fence, where it was ready to fall down, blocked the holes where the neighbors dogs kept digging through, they barked and barked while I was working on that side of the house, Holemans came out a few times and yelled at them, but never took them inside, at least that was my opinion of what they should do. Janice and I enjoyed working together, we wanted a bike ride soon, but never got it, I think the yard was more important, it sure looks good. I'm sure there will be other nice Saturdays coming.

Our evening together was at the Utah Symphony, we went to the lecture before and David Cho the assistant conductor taught us all about the piece and all its movements, he was so good I really liked him. The symphony was Tchaikovsky's 1st Piano Concerto, the Piano player Alexander Paley was really good, he could play it soft and could play it loud. He really put on a show. The symphony played after, Johannes Brahams Symphony No. 1 .

We took trax home, saw some strange looking young kids, heard that the Jazz won.

Sunday we went to church, heard the Hillcrest Choir sing, came home enjoyed a quiet day.

Janice goes to Cheyene Wyoming tomorrow to evaluate a student. It was a nice weekend, today was a little colder and cloudy all day.

Abraham Lincoln - Civil War

Thursday night we went to the Salt Lake City Library, and went to hear a talk from Thomas Chidsey he talked about his Great Grandfather and his life and read some letters that he had written during the Civil War. He talked about a prayer book that his Great Grandfather found on a dead soldier, that he had stopped to bury. The book has been his family for years and it had only one name on it. Through the use of the Internet they found the Parish where this book belonged, and he told us how they returned it to this church that the soldier had come from.

It was an interesting evening, and it was the first time I had ever gone to the new Library.

Talk in Church & Sunday Dinner / Grandkids

Today Janice and I got to talk in Church, we talked about the blessings we and our families have by having the gospel in our lives. We have had almost two weeks to work on our talks, since last week was Fast Sunday. Janice gave a good talk, told every one how we met and made great compliments about what a good man I was. She made me blush. I was nervous, but it came off good, I took just the right amount of time. I read off a list of blessing and talked about them all, and I told about John D.T. McAllister and Wilford Wooddruf doing the baptisms for the signers of the Declaration of Independance and Christopher Columbus, one hundred in all.
We came home from church, watched some TV, took our naps and prepared dinner.
John & Lindsay came over with the Grandkids and had dinner with us. Such a cute family, the grand kid's played with the toys, the girls dressed Jack up as a Princess, we took pictures. The girls made cookies with Grandma Janice, Jack sat at the table and ate some chocolate chips from a dish. Jack sure likes to play with the toy airplane. They left about 8:00 PM, it was good to see them. John and I talked about finding a Yamaha Rhino for this summer, He knows a dealer up in
Wyoming. It was a great visit. The weather was cloudy today, with some rain and a cold breeze.
